Introduction to the Methods part

In this part of the site we explain a little about the methodology and statistics related to the SPSS toolbox.
Of course there are many sites on the internet discussing these topics. Our goal is not be give a comprehensive explanation of all techniques.
We focus on things which, according to our teaching experience at Arnhem Business School, will be useful for our own students.

In the menu at the top of this page you can see the topics we want to discuss.

Interesting reading material

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has on its website a section entitled "Making Data Meaningful". It offers three guides:

  1. Part 1: A guide to writing stories about numbers (pdf, 1.6 MB). The first guide provides guidelines and examples on the use of effective writing techniques to make data meaningful.
  2. Part 2: A guide to presenting statistics (pdf, 2.3 MB). The second guide provides guidelines and examples on preparing effective tables, charts and maps, and using other forms of visualizations to make data meaningful. It also offers advice on how to avoid bad or misleading visual presentations.
  3. Part 3: A guide to communicating with the media (pdf, 533 KB). The third guide aims to help producers of statistics find the best way to get their message across and to communicate effectively with the media. It contains suggestions, guidelines and examples.

Comments, suggestions and ideas are always welcome. You can post them here. We thank you in advance for your contributions.
