Links for statistics and research methods

  • Hyperstat Online Statistics Textbook: There are many places in the world were people try to support their teaching of statistics by means of interactive text pages and computer programs. This site by David M. Lane has a lot of nice stuff. A nice extra of this site is that it contains numerous links to still other places on the web with material on statistics. A minus point are the many adds (although they are from companies offering statistics related stuff).

  • Research Methods Knowledge Base: The Research Methods Knowledge Base is a comprehensive web-based textbook that addresses all of the topics in a typical introductory undergraduate or graduate course in social research methods.
It also addresses the major theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of research including: the idea of validity in research, reliability of measures and ethics.

  • Statsoft Electronic Textbook: Statsoft is one of the competitors of SPSS as developer of statistical software. Their free online Statistics Textbook offers training in the understanding and application of statistics.

  • The American Statistical Association has a large website with lots of interesting materials (if you know where to find it). For example have a look at the paper "What is a survey" (pdf, 1040 KB) published by the survey research method section of the ASA.
